Who We Are

The Design Group is a team of creative professionals who live and work in the rural splendour of Queensland, Australia. Starting in Melbourne in the 1980’s, we relocated to Warwick, Queensland in 1990.

The Design Group combine creative thinking with technical excellence. Our work is characterised by clean, functional design and attention to detail at every step from project inception to completion.

We have over 20 years experience in graphic design and print publishing, and four years experience in website design and implementation.

We focus on achieving results for our clients — real world solutions, on time and on budget.

Where We Are

Warwick, Queensland’s second oldest city established in 1840, is the hub of the Southern Darling Downs. It is a provincial city of 12,500 people, sited on the Condamine river and just two hours drive from the cosmopolitan vigour of Brisbane, Queensland’s state capital, and an hour away from Toowoomba, Queensland’s major regional centre of 90,000 people.

The Team

Paul Howson

Company founder and director, designer, rejoicer in all things precise and technical

Paul is a design and publishing specialist with over 20 years experience in graphic design, typesetting, publishing and information systems. He graduated as an Electrical Engineer from Monash University in 1975, after which he pursued his interest in design and communication, gaining experience with computerised typesetting technology and eventually all aspects of print publishing. During the early 1980’s he worked as a software engineer and programmer, designing and implementing graphical information systems for the Australian mining industry.

He returned to design and communications in 1985, establishing a computer based design and publishing business which moved to Warwick Queensland in 1990 and was incorporated as The Design Group in 1992.

Since 1995, Paul has pursued a cutting edge interest in the internet and web site development. He has developed software for translating xml based content for multi-platform publishing. (See the xmltr web site.)
